Our second stop on our excursion was the the oracle of the dead, Necromanteion that was devoted to Hades and Persephone. The site was believed by devotees to be the door to Hades, the realm of the dead. Rituals here involved elaborate ceremonies wherein celebrants seeking to speak to the dead would start by gathering in the ziggurat-like temple and consuming a narcotic hallucinogen compound. Then decended into the underground corridor to where the nekyomanteia would pose a series of questions and chant prayers.

Nicopolis
We first visited a magnificent museum unlike any I had ever been to. Nothing was encased... there was even skeleton remains that you could have touched. Linnie outside the museum was convinced she should jump all the stairs in front of the museum... she cleared them but later followed with a face plant. Highlight of the day. All in all a really amazing first stop and pretty wild experience walking along the 1st century BCE wall of Nicopolis.

Toodling around town
After class we jumped on the bus to downtown Ioannina. After grabbing lunch at our favorite gyro joint we did some of our first exploring on some of the side streets and went into some of the local clothing shops. Then last night we had our second Greek dance class. Each class I get that much worse and we add more and more dances to our repertoire. Sunday, April 1, 2012
